Researchers are still actively working on developing new treatments for glaucoma, treatments that do more than lower the pressure in the eye. Glaucoma is a complex disease so it takes many years to develop new treatments.

I’m 27 and have been diagnosed with glucoma since birth and have to attend my eye appointments every 3 to 6 months or on a yearly basis depending on my eye pressure. I’ve had to have six lazer surgeries in my lifetime, four in my right eye and two in my left eye and I have to administer three different eye drops every day to keep my pressure stable.

I am had glaucoma for 18 years and I take eye drops everyday to control my pressures. I need to see my glaucoma specialist every 3 months to get my glaucoma monitored and make sure about my eye drops are working and that I'm taking them. A college student with glaucoma it's more challenging because I have to not only keep up with my homework but I have to make sure that I have refills on my eye drops and if I have to miss class for my glaucoma appointment I had to tell my professors that I will miss their class and have a doctor's note. Also on the college student with glaucoma eye get eye fatigue easily when I'm on the computer doing my homework so I have to rest my eyes for like 15 minutes and then I could go back to doing my homework. I also have to tell my professors what I need to accommodate my vision and I have to set up services with office of disabilities in the college to get extended time on my homework and test. I also have to take eye drops in between my classes since I take eye drops 4 times a day and Monday and Wednesday are my busiest days where I have a gap in between my classes to put my eye drops in. I use assistive technology and a white cane to help me what my vision that is is all lost. However I want to use my information to help college students who have glaucoma to get through college and treat glaucoma the same time.

As a young woman with glaucoma, I want raise awareness of glaucoma in young children because I feel like people are mistaking glaucoma for an older person's disease only but that is not true because children are at risk for this as well. I am a prime example of getting pediatric glaucoma when I was nine and I went to school with some friends that were born with glaucoma.

@karun Currently lowering the pressure by 30% is the only treatment of glaucoma. I have glaucoma and my pressure was only 18 when diagnosed. But it affected me a lot. My doctor is now aiming to bring my pressure to 10 to avoid further damage. Keep hope, one day there will surely be a treatment to reverse the vision loss

I'm 25 and I have glaucoma. I've had it for 16 years and I'm on for eye drops right now for my pressures. I'm currently reading a book about glaucoma in Braille because I'm learning Braille in case glaucoma becomes Progressive. Reading a book about glaucoma in Braille is great knowledge for me on glaucoma and good practice with Braille. I'm always reading a lot about glaucoma and listening to videos about it and wanted to help other people with the eye condition.

Hannah's story is really similar to my own. I was also born with cataracts in one eye and never had much vision in that eye. When I was a teenager, I was diagnosed with glaucoma, which was a result from the cataract surgery. I remember having to take lots of eye drops, but I had a laser treatment a few years back, and (knock on wood) my intraocular pressure has been fine since then. I can also relate to Hannah's mother. Having this condition, I've often wondered if I should even have kids. I didn't want them to face the same struggles I did. I hope Hannah is doing well. :)

I was diagnosed with glaucoma eight years ago, and now I am completely blind. I did all of the eye drop treatments, laser treatments, and took the necessary pills that they prescribed me. In the end, none of it worked in the disease overtook me and is now left me completely blind. I am only 37 years old. In all reality, what is it realistically the chance that we will be able to restore Vision once again? How do we restore the optic nerve? With a cure ever really truly be found? Although this video seems nice, it really does not leave me with much hope, just a lot of research, but no real date or expectancy on if, or even when there might be a cure to restore lost vision. Being that I have no functional Vision, this is very concerning to me. Very frustrating.

I related to ur struggles I mean u probably have it worse than me but my life is still a struggle cause I have a vision disability. Anyway. I’m almost 17. I was born with congenital cataracts in both eyes and I was also born with aniridia in both eyes I also have lazy eye lids so sometimes it’s kinda hard to tell if my eyes are open or not. Apparently also having I think aniridia or something else that I have makes ur brain work slower so I get some more time on things in school. Honestly I believe that is true. I also have slight nystagmus in both eyes (I had surgery for that tho in the summer between 7 and 8 grade I think). I played soccer when I was a young girl but quit because I thought it was or going to influence my grades badly (also I think because I didn’t think I was as good as everyone else). But soccer is such a fun sport and I want to start playing it again. Anyway. I haven’t really been open about the whole vision disability thing to my friends or like extended family. 1. U know when u have glasses and people are like hey can I try ur glasses. Most of the time I said ok whatever. Sometimes I laugh about it and I’m like ur going to regret it or something (cause u know I have a really intense prescription) well I give people my glasses and most of the time they are like wow ur blind or how do u see out of these. And basically I i pretty much don’t respond and be all nonchalant about it or just laugh it off. 2. When I’m really into something like a book or a video or a game I’ll like bring my face closer to it and half the time it’s subconscious so when I notice it I get really insecure about it and I back away (still being able to see it tho) I get insecure because some people make fun of me about it and call me blind or like grandma or something 3. If someone shows something to me on their phone most of the time I grab their phone so I can read it but if I can’t I literally just take like maybe 15 seconds to pretend read over it and then laugh or give the approximate hopeful correct response that they wanted from me (same thing happens if they point at something far away and I can’t see what it is sometimes I’ll fake things like that) 4 with the lazy eyelid thing I’ve had many occasions where someone is like ha u have ur eyes closed or how are u doing that with ur eyes closed and I just laugh it off and I’m like yup. There is several other things in my life that I can say but this comment is already very long and if u are reading thanks for reading and listening to what I have to say about my daily life
